Tensions rise in Parliament as the Opposition demands a debate on the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, threatening to disrupt proceedings if their request remains unmet. During an all-party meeting, leaders criticized the government for undermining democratic practices and bypassing parliamentary traditions.
Congress representatives, including Jairam Ramesh and Gaurav Gogoi, voiced concerns over the Modi government's handling of the Winter session, listing 13 bills with minimal consultation with the Opposition. They also advocated for discussions on pressing issues such as national security, air pollution, and the purity of the voter list.
Adding to the pressure, leaders from the Samajwadi Party and the TMC supported calls for debate on SIR, with the TMC questioning the value of the Opposition in a Parliament that seemingly operates at the government's consent. The session's outcome remains uncertain as parties push for more significant Opposition engagement.
