In a recent critique of the Mahayuti government, the Shiv Sena (UBT) has labeled the postponement of December 2 polls in certain local bodies as a strategic political maneuver. This delay is purportedly devised to buy more time before future elections, with the alleged backing of the election authorities.
The elections for 24 out of 288 local bodies, initially slated for December 2, are now rescheduled to December 20. This shift arises from judicial appeals contesting decisions made by Returning Officers during their examination of nomination papers.
The State Election Commission (SEC)'s announcement on Saturday highlighted issues in the election process, including irregularities in nomination withdrawals and symbol allocations. Notably, both the Shiv Sena (UBT) spokesperson Sanjay Raut and Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde have expressed disapproval of the SEC's decision.
