PM Modi calls down on grand alliance in sharp attack on opposition

Prime Minister Narendra Modi hit out at the opposition parties which are making efforts to forge an anti-BJP coalition for Lok Sabha elections, terming it as “maha milawat (grand impurity)" which will "never " come to power. Replying to a debate on the motion of thanks to the President's address in the Lok Sabha, he referred to the recent rally of various opposition parties organised by TMC and mockingly said that they can prepare for a no-confidence motion in 2023, implying that he will get another term.

While targeting Congress, he said that his slogan of "Congress-mukt bharat" (Congress-free India) was inspired by Mahatma Gandhi who had desired that the Congress should be disbanded after independence. "Mahatma Gandhi had wished to disband Congress. Cong-mukt Bharat not my slogan but Gandhiji wanted it," he said.

He also attacked those associating with the Congress, “Allies of Congress have also accepted the adulterated culture. None of their allies can stay out of dynasty because it has become their culture and tradition. This play of adulteration is being done very easily because almost all are dynasts are out on bail in bulk.” He noted that in 2014, a government with full majority had come to power after 30 years.

“People know what happens when a coalition government comes to power. Ab toh maha milawat hone wala hai. Leking yahan pahunchne wale nahi hai ( Now there is going to be a grand impurity. But it will not get power)."

Talking about the January 20 rally convened by Mamata Banerjee he said, "You may gather in Kolkata (Kolkata rally) but they (constituents) will not see eye to eye in Kerala. In UP, this ‘maha milawat’ has been thrown out in a “healthy democracy” people keep away from “impurity”."

Slamming the opposition parties for questioning the credibility of the EVMs the Prime Minister said, "our Election commission is an institute of pride for the entire world. Despite having few small complaints, all political parties are abiding by the decisions of the Election commission. Do you want to destroy all of it."

"They are blaming the EVMS for their defeat. I am surprised, that the country was discussing the budget and they were crying over the EVMs. I wonder what has happened to you guys? Why are you so scared?" he added.

Hitting back at the Congress for accusing his government of misusing the Central institutions, the Prime Minister accused the grand old party of "threatening the courts" and challenging the judiciary.

"The way Congress is threatening the courts. The way they are commenting on decisions of the court, this has never happened before.  We may or may not like the Court's decision but we cannot despise them. We should respect them to save the integrity of the institution," he said.

"Look at them, if they don't approve of anything, then they can say anything or write anything. You to threaten the entire judiciary, you played the impeachment card. And you blame us for misusing institutions?" he asserted.

The Prime Minister also highlighted the incident where now Congress president Rahul Gandhi tore an ordinance approved by the then Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's cabinet.

"'Respect the institutions', you are just stuck with this one phrase. See what all you have done first. The Congress party called the Planning commission a group of jokers. You are signing paeans about the Planning commissions, it was one of your former prime minister called a group of jokers," he said.

"What did you do with NTR, MGR? Not only this you tore a cabinet decision in a press conference. What sanctity you talk about? How could you talk about respecting institutions?  So I request that before pointing fingers at Modi you should know that four of your fingers are pointing towards yourself," he added. (ANI)
