An incident in the Delhi Assembly on January 6 sparked severe political turmoil, leading to three days of disrupted proceedings. Delhi Assembly Speaker Vijender Gupta called it an 'unfortunate incident' that made legislative work impossible.
At the center of the controversy is Atishi, who is accused of making disrespectful remarks about Sikh Gurus during a session marking the 350th martyrdom anniversary of Guru Tegh Bahadur. The issue has caused political friction between the BJP in Delhi and AAP-ruled Punjab, with legal actions initiated by Punjab Police over alleged 'doctored' videos.
Speaker Gupta highlighted the need for clarity on the roles of all involved, including forensic and police authorities. The Assembly has directed Atishi to submit a statement by January 19, emphasizing the seriousness of the issue. Non-participation in discussions and absence from the House remain points of serious concern, Gupta added.
