Bangladesh is embarking on a new diplomatic course with India following a sweeping electoral victory by the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), led by Tarique Rahman. Humayun Kabir, an adviser to the BNP, underscored the necessity for India to recognize the altered political landscape and foster cooperative relations.
Kabir described the ousted leader Sheikh Hasina as a 'terrorist' responsible for significant unrest. He urged India to ensure its territory is not used to destabilize Bangladesh. India's External Affairs Ministry has committed to supporting Bangladesh's stability and is considering a request to extradite Hasina.
With plans to fortify regional cooperation, deepen economic ties, and ensure minority safety, BNP aims to re-establish Bangladesh as a strategic partner in South Asia. Prime Minister Modi has been invited to Rahman's upcoming swearing-in ceremony, marking the start of this diplomatic reset.
