The Election Commission of India has suspended seven officials in West Bengal following alleged misconduct during the Special Intensive Revision process. BJP leader Dilip Ghosh emphasized the need for transparency and accountability, stating, "The investigation found that some officials were deliberately complicating it, causing delays." He further insisted on the importance of uncovering the truth about those involved and ensuring appropriate penalties.

The ECI has instructed the West Bengal Chief Secretary to commence disciplinary proceedings against the suspended officials. These individuals, including assistant electoral registration officers and block-level officers, are accused of "serious misconduct, dereliction of duty, and misuse of statutory powers." The suspensions span various assembly constituencies, such as Samserganj, Farakka, and Maynaguri. Reacting to the ECI's decision, Bihar Health Minister Mangal Pandey argued that certain state officials were influenced by political motivations instead of adhering to the Commission's directives.

Addressing reporters, Pandey remarked, "Certainly, the officials of the West Bengal government appear to be working more as officials of Mamata Banerjee and the TMC." He emphasized the necessity of fair and transparent elections to sustain public confidence and warned that the ECI's actions serve as a cautionary message to those who prioritize political allegiances over official duties. Among the suspended officials are Dr. Sefaur Rahaman, Nitish Das, and Dalia Ray Choudhury, whose roles were crucial in the election process across multiple constituencies. (ANI)
