Hungary's Prime Minister Viktor Orban has ordered the detention of a Ukrainian cash and gold shipment, sparking diplomatic tensions. Alleging money laundering, Hungary's tax authority was tasked with investigating. This decision comes as Orban, facing electoral challenges, accuses his opposition of ties to Ukraine amid rising political confrontations.

In a controversial move, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban has ordered a seized Ukrainian cash and gold shipment to be held for a 60-day investigation. The 82 million USD worth of assets were intercepted last week, with authorities citing money laundering concerns.

The gold and money, originally transported from Austria to Ukraine, led to the arrest of seven Ukrainian bank employees, who were later released without charges in Hungary. Ukrainian officials have condemned the seizure as illegal, suggesting it is politically motivated amid growing tensions between the two nations.

The incident precedes Hungary's upcoming election, where Orban, trailing his opponent Péter Magyar, has intensified anti-Ukraine rhetoric. The Hungarian government has also moved to oppose Ukraine's EU aspirations, marking a further strain in Ukrainian-Hungarian relations.
