Revocation and Detention: Soleimani's Relatives Face U.S. Immigration Crackdown
U.S. federal agents have detained the niece and grand-niece of late Iranian military commander Qassem Soleimani after their green card statuses were revoked by Secretary of State Marco Rubio. Hamideh Soleimani Afshar and her daughter are under U.S. Immigration custody. The incident coincides with heightened U.S. deportation efforts and concerns about due process.
The U.S. Immigration Department has detained the niece and grand-niece of former Iranian military leader Qassem Soleimani, following the revocation of their green card statuses by Secretary of State Marco Rubio. The State Department confirmed the action, naming Hamideh Soleimani Afshar and her daughter as those in custody.
Details about the location of the arrests remain undisclosed. Reports claim that Afshar enjoyed a lavish lifestyle in Los Angeles. Her Instagram account reportedly showcased this affluent lifestyle before it was deleted. The late Soleimani was killed in a U.S. airstrike in Baghdad in January 2020 during Donald Trump's presidency.
The detentions occur amid ongoing U.S.-Israeli tensions with Iran. The State Department has linked Afshar to supporting Iran's regime and noted that her husband is barred from U.S. entry. The situation has intensified debates over immigration policies and human rights.
