In a significant call for action, Congress MP Karti Chidambaram has urged that women's reservation should be introduced within the current capacity of the Lok Sabha, maintaining the 543-seat strength. Chidambaram emphasized that failure to do so might indicate the government's real intent is delimitation, not empowering women.

Chidambaram expressed concern over delimitation based on the 2011 census, warning that states such as Tamil Nadu could lose representation in such a scenario. He advocated for reserving one-third of seats for women, ensuring the continuation of the existing 543-member composition of the Lok Sabha.

Addressing apprehensions from opposition parties, Prime Minister Narendra Modi assured that the proposed increase in Lok Sabha seats would not disrupt regional balance or lead to injustice. He affirmed the decision-making process would remain fair across all states and regions, committing to a proportional rise in seats without bias.
