The recent defeat of the women's quota bill in India's Parliament has sparked significant controversy. Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde publicly criticized the move, describing the Opposition's action as a portrayal of their 'true and cruel face'.
The bill, which aimed to reserve seats for women in legislatures and increase Lok Sabha seats by 2029, failed to pass after not receiving the necessary two-thirds majority in the Lower House. Despite backing from 298 members, opposition from 230 led to the bill's downfall, as it required 352 votes.
Shinde, leading the Shiv Sena, expressed deep disappointment, claiming this day marked a dark chapter in India's history. He emphasized the need for empowerment and the apparent disregard shown by INDI bloc parties and Congress, calling for a robust response to the 'anti-woman' stand.
