The Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) has raised strong criticisms against the Union government's recent increase in commercial LPG prices. Spokesperson TKS Elangovan accused the government of postponing the hike until post-elections, suggesting that it will severely impact small businesses primarily reliant on commercial LPG, such as hotels and eateries.

Elangovan expressed concerns that rising costs would force many hotels to close, anticipating that the increase in prices would deter consumers from purchasing eatables. He further questioned the government's foreign policy decisions, particularly regarding India's crude oil procurement, citing alleged external influence.

Additionally, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin labeled the LPG price hike as "unacceptable," noting that benefits from falling global oil prices hadn't benefitted consumers. This price surge comes with a 19-kg cylinder in Delhi now at Rs 3,071.50, although domestic LPG prices remain stable and subsidized. Meanwhile, politics heats up with upcoming elections, where Elangovan confidently predicts DMK's strong performance.
