Following the Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP) sweeping victories in the Assam and West Bengal Assembly elections, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi reiterated allegations of 'vote theft.' On Wednesday, he took to social media platform X to assert that BJP MPs and MLAs are 'infiltrators,' asserting that every sixth BJP MP in the Lok Sabha benefited from electoral malpractices.
Gandhi specifically cited Haryana, where the Congress faced defeat in the 2024 Assembly elections, as a state where the entire BJP government comprised 'infiltrators.' He criticized the mechanism of 'vote theft,' suggesting that the BJP's successful assembly seat grabs were far from legitimate. Gandhi used the term 'compromised' for Prime Minister Narendra Modi's administration, claiming remote control and an aversion to truth.
The opposition leader spotlighted the influence of institutional capture and voter list manipulation, alleging that if free and fair elections were held, BJP would struggle to retain even 140 seats. At press conferences, he highlighted discrepancies in electoral rolls, demanding accountability from the Election Commission, which, despite repeated requests, he did not furnish with formal documentation to support his claims. Meanwhile, the BJP celebrated major gains, including 206 seats in West Bengal and 82 seats in Assam, affirming its electoral dominance.
