The formation of a BJP government in West Bengal is an emotional moment for the party and is also India's victory as the state is important for security and the country's development, said Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Saturday. Earlier in the day, Suvendu Adhikari took oath as Bengal's first BJP CM, capping the historic saffron sweep in the state as the iconic Brigade Parade Grounds in Kolkata hosted the swearing-in of the maiden BJP government since Independence. ''It is not a victory of the BJP but also of the country. West Bengal is important for security and development of the country,'' Fadnavis said after attending the swearing-in event in Kolkata. He said the moment was also ''emotional and overwhelming'' for party workers and supporters. ''Today is a day of immense joy and happiness not only for the BJP but for all of us,'' Fadnavis said, congratulating Adhikari on becoming the new chief minister of the eastern state. The senior BJP leader said the government had been formed under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and expressed confidence that the new administration would fulfil the aspirations of the people of Bengal. Describing West Bengal as the land of Jana Sangh founder Syama Prasad Mookerjee and freedom fighter Subhas Chandra Bose, Fadnavis said the BJP coming to power there carried special significance for party cadre. The BJP secured 207 seats in the 294-member West Bengal assembly in the recently concluded elections, ending the Trinamool Congress' 15-year rule.
