The Election Commission has launched a probe into allegations that foreign nationals deceitfully participated in the Tamil Nadu Assembly election held on April 23. This decision follows a detailed report from the police, who have apprehended ten foreign nationals attempting to leave the country.
Airport officials became suspicious when they observed indelible ink on the travelers' index fingers, a sign that they had voted. The police in Chennai confirmed the arrests across nine separate cases, identifying the foreigners as being from Sri Lanka, the UK, and Canada.
These individuals reportedly used falsified Indian identification to cast their votes. As per the law, only Indian citizens or NRIs carrying their original Indian passports are eligible to vote. A comprehensive investigation by the Central Crime Branch is underway to further uncover the extent of the electoral fraud.
