Tragic Assassination Marks Rising Political Violence in Colombia
Rogers Devia, a former mayor and ally of presidential candidate Abelardo de La Espriella, was killed along with his aide in the Colombian heartland. Authorities suspect the involvement of groups previously labelled as terrorists, highlighting the increasing threat to political rights before the upcoming presidential elections.
Political violence in Colombia claimed the life of former mayor Rogers Devia and his aide, Eder Cardona, as they were gunned down in Cubarral, Meta region.
Devia, associated with presidential hopeful Abelardo de La Espriella, was killed in a zone under conflict by multiple terrorist-tagged factions.
Authorities fear the attack may jeopardize the exercise of political rights and democratic participation, casting a shadow over the forthcoming presidential elections.
