In a significant shift in Maharashtra's political landscape, former minister Prajakt Tanpure has resigned from the Sharad Pawar-led NCP (SP) and joined the BJP. This decision, announced in Mumbai, was made in consultation with his supporters, given the dynamic political environment.
Tanpure joined the BJP in the presence of the state unit chief Ravindra Chavan and former MP Sujay Vikhe Patil. He stated that this move, although difficult, was necessary, denying any influence from central agencies or legal troubles. He emphasized his commitment to the BJP's goals while aiming to address rural issues without any current ministerial aspirations.
The switch is expected to strengthen the BJP in Rahuri and Ahilyanagar where Tanpure's family is influential. Formerly part of the MVA government as Minister of State for Urban Development and Energy, Tanpure expressed that lingering in opposition has jeopardized the political survival of his supporters.
