Xinhua Unveils AI Initiative to Bolster Xi Jinping's Ideology

Xinhuanet, a platform owned by China's state-operated Xinhua News Agency, has revealed plans to invest more than 1.1 billion yuan, equivalent to $162.38 million, in developing an artificial intelligence (AI) initiative focused on disseminating President Xi Jinping's ideological framework. This move is outlined in filings submitted to the Shanghai Stock Exchange.

The project, dubbed 'Xinhua Yudian' or Xinhua Lexicon, aims to create an AI-powered agent that serves as an educational and informational tool centered on 'Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era.' This initiative is designed to engage users with political news and current affairs, addressing the challenges of information overload and trust issues surrounding the accuracy of news.

China has embarked on an 'AI+' campaign to integrate AI across all economic sectors, complementing previous efforts like the successful 'Xuexi Qiangguo' app introduced in 2019. The proposed AI will offer reliable references for Xi's discourses in official documentation and policy-making, further solidifying the ideological foundation of the Chinese Communist Party's narratives within society.
