Lula, a leftist, is projected to win a runoff with 44% against Flavio's 38%. The election in Latin America's largest economy is set for October.
Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva has extended his lead over opposition Senator Flavio Bolsonaro in advance of this year's presidential election, according to a new poll released on Wednesday. The widening gap follows reports linking Bolsonaro to a disgraced banker.
The survey, conducted by Quaest and commissioned by brokerage Genial, indicates that in a hypothetical second-round runoff, Lula, a left-leaning candidate, would secure victory with 44% of the vote compared to Flavio Bolsonaro's 38%. This marks an improvement from a previous poll in May where Lula led by just one percentage point.
The national election, pivotal for Latin America's largest economy, is scheduled to take place in October. Political observers are closely watching these developments as the candidates prepare for a critical electoral battle.
