Donald Trump and Kim Jong-un first met in Singapore in June 2018 where they reached an agreement for North Korea's denuclearization. North Korea insisted that it would not give up its nuclear arsenal unless Donald Trump and his government agreed to remove US troops from South Korea. The second meeting is to happen in Hanoi after around eight months as Donald Trump already left for Vietnam on Monday (February 25). Vietnam having diplomatic relations with both North Korea and the US has been chosen for this summit.

North Korean leader Kim Jong-un has already arrived in Vietnam ahead of the second summit. The 35-year old preferred to travel to Vietnam by train covering about 4,000 kilometres (via China) that took two days instead of opting to take a direct flight. The leader followed his grandfather, Kim ll-sung, who travelled by train when he went to Vietnam and Eastern Europe. Whereas, Donald Trump is said to be still on the way.

Donald Trump will meet Kim Jong-un for a brief one-to-one conversation on Wednesday (February 27) evening and they will have dinner together with their respective advisors, as revealed by the White House spokeswoman Sarah Sanders. The leaders will have a series of back-and-forth meetings.

The meeting in Vietnam's Hanoi is expected to build on the groundwork of what was achieved at the historic Singapore summit last June. The previous summit in Singapore released a vaguely worded statement with both the leaders agreeing to work towards denuclearization, albeit there was no clear statement what this would entail.

Experts believe this meeting will portray both the leader's consciousness in working towards denuclearization in a more deepened way and expectations are very high for a result that must demonstrate tangible signs of progress. However, Donald Trump earlier said that he was in 'no rush' to press Kim Jong-un and North Korea for denuclearization as he just didn't want testing.

"I don't want to rush anybody. I just don't want testing. As long as there's no testing, we're happy," Trump said.
