Torrential rains have triggered a landslide in the southern Italian province of Caserta, forcing evacuations. Rescuers are searching for a missing woman and her adult son, feared dead as of Wednesday.
The disaster struck the town of San Felice a Cancello and nearby areas on Tuesday afternoon. The pair were traveling in a three-wheeler when it was overwhelmed by the landslide. Emergency services discovered its mangled wreckage.
'We hope they jumped out and may still be alive, but experts give little hope,' said local mayor Emilio Nuzzo. Ten search squads from the fire brigade are scouring the area. The landslide also forced evacuations from multiple homes.
Severe weather hit other parts of Italy on Tuesday with violent thunderstorms and hail affecting Milan, Como, and the Tuscan seaside.
