India is taking a significant step to bolster its weather forecasting capabilities through 'Mission Mausam'. The initiative aims to address the increasing unpredictability of weather patterns caused by the climate crisis.
Key components of the mission include setting up an artificial cloud laboratory, expanding the radar network by over 150%, and adding new satellites and supercomputers. These measures are essential to improve the accuracy of weather predictions, especially for complex tropical climates.
Union Ministry of Earth Sciences Secretary M. Ravichandran highlighted that the five-year mission will be implemented in two phases, starting with an expansion of observational infrastructure. The mission also aims to enhance cloud seeding techniques to manage weather phenomena like rain and hail.
