A devastating 7.7 magnitude earthquake struck Thailand and Myanmar, resulting in the deaths of at least three individuals in Bangkok and the burial of dozens when a high-rise building under construction collapsed.
The massive tremor, with its epicenter near Mandalay, Myanmar's second-largest city, triggered aftershocks and led to Myanmar declaring a widespread state of emergency as it struggles with a prolonged civil war. The Red Cross reported downed power lines complicating rescue efforts.
In Bangkok, dramatic scenes unfolded as buildings swayed and crumbled, forcing evacuations and causing widespread panic, while damaged homes and infrastructure marked impacts in Myanmar and parts of China.
