British drivers are steering their color preferences towards green as part of a growing trend driven by the country's shift to electric vehicles (EVs). In 2025, the sale of green-tinted cars peaked over the past 20 years, according to the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT).

Historically, car colors might seem irrelevant in a business sense, but they highlight shifting consumer tastes. Recently, preferences have aligned with decarbonization efforts. Green cars have gained significant traction, with 99,793 units sold, marking a 46.3% increase from the previous year and nearly 5% of total sales.

As electrified vehicles gain popularity, manufacturers are expanding their model ranges. Although grey continues to dominate as Britain's top car color, followed by black, blue, and white, the shift to EVs has empowered more diverse and vibrant consumer choices, says SMMT chief executive Mike Hawes.
