PM Modi to visit UP on April 28-29, to launch projects worth Rs 6,350 crore

On Wednesday, Modi will travel to Hardoi where he will inaugurate the Ganga Expressway, and will also address a gathering on the occasion. According to the statement, the prime minister will participate in Mahila Sammelan, which will witness the presence of women in large numbers from across the region. He will dedicate 48 completed projects worth over Rs 1,050 crore to the nation and lay the foundation stone of 112 projects worth around Rs 5,300 crore. The key infrastructure projects include the completion of the Varanasi-Azamgarh Road widening, opening of critical rail over bridges at Kazzakpura and Kadipur, and a sewage treatment plant with a capacity of 55 MLD in Bhagwanpur, among others. In a significant push to rail connectivity between UP and Maharashtra, Modi will also flag off two new Amrit Bharat Express trains -- Varanasi to Pune (Hadapsar) and Ayodhya to Mumbai (Lokmanya Tilak Terminus) -- on April 28. The initiative is expected to greatly benefit passengers from UP, particularly pilgrims, students, migrant workers, and small traders who frequently travel between north India and Maharashtra, the statement said. For UP, this development holds special significance as it strengthens both religious tourism and economic mobility. Varanasi and Ayodhya, being major spiritual destinations, attract millions of devotees annually. Enhanced rail connectivity to metropolitan cities like Mumbai and Pune is expected to boost tourism, facilitate smoother movement of people, and support livelihoods linked to these sectors, it added. On April 29, at around 8.30 am, Prime Minister Modi will perform darshan and pooja at Shri Kashi Vishwanath temple in Varanasi. Thereafter, he will travel to Hardoi where he will inaugurate Ganga Expressway at around 11.30 am, and will also address a gathering. The Ganga Expressway is a 594-kilometre-long, six-lane (expandable to eight lanes), access-controlled greenfield high-speed corridor, built at a total cost of around Rs 36,230 crore. The expressway traverses 12 districts -- Meerut, Bulandshahr, Hapur, Amroha, Sambhal, Budaun, Shahjahanpur, Hardoi, Unnao, Raebareli, Pratapgarh, and Prayagraj--thereby connecting western, central, and eastern regions of the state through a single seamless high-speed corridor. The project is expected to significantly reduce travel time between Meerut and Prayagraj from the current 10-12 hours to approximately six hours, enhancing ease of movement and efficiency in transportation. A key highlight of the project is the provision of a 3.5-km-long Emergency Landing Facility (airstrip) in Shahjahanpur district. This dual-use infrastructure enhances national security preparedness and adds strategic value beyond economic benefits, the statement said. The Ganga Expressway will also serve as a backbone for a broader expressway network in the state, with several link corridors either operational or planned, including the Agra-“Lucknow Expressway, Jewar Link Expressway, Farrukhabad Link Expressway, and the proposed extension from Meerut to Haridwar, it added.
