Uttar Pradesh is bracing for an intense heatwave next week, with Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath placing the administration on high alert. Temperatures in several districts are expected to spike by 3 to 4 degrees Celsius, according to the Indian Meteorological Department's forecast for May 19, 20, and 21.
The state government has mandated preventive measures across all districts in advance of the forecasted heatwave. An official statement instructed district magistrates, the Health Department, Power Department, and relief agencies to remain vigilant.
Hospitals have been ordered to ensure necessary arrangements for heatstroke treatments, including medicine supplies, adequate beds, and staffing. Ambulance services are also to be fully operational, while localities must have an uninterrupted drinking water supply and power. Adityanath urged residents, especially children and the elderly, to take precautions and limit outdoor activities.
