The Assam government has decided to halt survey activities for a 'satellite township' near Tata's semiconductor project in Morigaon district, following opposition from tribal communities.
The Tiwa and Bodo people protested against the proposed township, which could impact villages such as Sindhisar, Naldhara, and Bihita.
Despite the immediate cessation of survey work, tribal groups are calling for the entire project to be canceled, citing concerns over displacement and the planned Rs 27,000 crore investment by Tata Electronics.
