Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma on Friday said that his government will launch the second phase of 'Vande Ganga Jal Sanrakshan Abhiyan' to promote water conservation and rainwater harvesting across villages in the state.

He said the water conservation campaign will be launched on May 25, on the day of Ganga Dussehra, and will continue till June 5, on World Environment Day.

Sharma made these announcements while on a visit to Dhambola village in Dungarpur district on Friday morning and interacted with locals.

He said proper management of rainwater and conservation of ponds could significantly help address the water crisis in villages.

The chief minister also directed police officials to run an extensive awareness campaign against drug abuse in the district and involve more youths in the drive.

He instructed the district administration to undertake embankment construction and plantation work at the Khemsagar pond in the village.

Following the villagers' demand, Sharma directed officials to expand sports facilities and ensure the quality construction of classrooms in the government school.

Earlier, Sharma offered prayers at the Govardhan Nath Ji Temple and Mataji Temple, according to a press release.

The chief minister had stayed overnight in the village on Thursday.

Sharma assured villagers that all necessary works related to the expansion of basic infrastructure in rural areas would be completed in a phased manner.

He said the expansion of basic infrastructure in villages is a priority of the state government.
