Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma launched the 'Vande Ganga Jal Sanrakshan Jan Abhiyan' from the Bisalpur Dam on Monday, coinciding with Ganga Dussehra.
According to an official statement, the statewide campaign will run from May 25 to June 5 and will include awareness drives and activities focused on water conservation.
The chief minister performed traditional rituals at the dam and urged people to participate in water conservation efforts actively.
He also visited the Bisaldeo Mahadev Temple and offered prayers.
Sharma said the state government had undertaken similar initiatives last year, focusing on the cleaning and preservation of water bodies such as ponds, lakes and reservoirs.
''Water is life, and people's participation is crucial to make this campaign successful,'' he said.
He reviewed the Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) system at the dam and highlighted its importance as a key source of water supply for the eastern Rajasthan districts.
A SCADA system at a dam utilises its sensors and controllers to provide real-time data on storage capacity, predict incoming water and calculate the safe amount to release to prevent flooding.
The chief minister also directed officials to develop new structures around the dam and strengthen efforts for groundwater recharge and rainwater harvesting, particularly in the Banas River basin.
Later, Sharma conducted an aerial survey of the Isarda Dam to assess progress in irrigation and water management projects. Officials said the feeder channel of the Ramjal Setu Link Project passes through major dams, including Isarda, Galwa and Bandh Baretha.
The campaign will involve activities such as cleaning of wells, stepwells and ponds, community participation drives, plantation programmes and awareness rallies across villages, officials added.
