India's northern region is enduring sweltering conditions, with Sri Ganganagar in Rajasthan leading the charts at 48.2 degrees Celsius. This temperature is significantly above the average, as reported by the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD).
A heatwave is declared in the plains when temperatures exceed 45 degrees, and a severe heatwave is noted past 47 degrees. Rajasthan's deserts also saw cities like Pilani, Bikaner, and Jaisalmer recording near-46-degree temperatures.
Similarly, Uttar Pradesh experienced high temperatures, notably in Banda district at 47.8 degrees. Delhi and nearby states felt similar heat. While Maharashtra's Vidarbha region experienced slight temperature relief, Brahmapuri still faced intense heat at 46 degrees.
In a contrast to this heatwave, the meteorological center in Dehradun has issued a storm warning for Uttarakhand, with forecasts of heavy rain, thunderstorms with gusts up to 60 km/h, particularly targeting districts like Uttarkashi and Chamoli.
