Philippines earthquake LIVE: No tsunami warning yet; aftershocks expected

Southeast coast of southern Philippine Mindanao Island was rattled by a strong 6.2 magnitude earthquake on Friday, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said.

The institute said the quake, which struck at 6:12 p.m. local time, hit at a depth of 76 km, about 92 km southeast off Governor Generoso town in Davao Oriental province of southern Philippines. The effect of offshore quake was felt across several cities in the southern Philippines.

No damage is reported due to the earthquake but aftershocks are expected.

Until now, Phivolcs has not issued a tsunami warning after the earthquake.
