Alexander Zverev has proven himself as the best of tennis' new generation of men's players following his maiden ATP Finals triumph where he beat Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic in consecutive days, German great Boris Becker has said. After overcoming 20-times Grand Slam winner Federer in the semi-finals in London on Saturday, the 21-year-old Zverev beat world number one Djokovic 6-4 6-3 the next day to claim the biggest crown of his career so far.

Boxing: Pacquiao not letting Mayweather talk distract from Broner bout

Talk of a rematch with Floyd Mayweather must wait until after January's WBA welterweight title defense against Adrien Broner, Manny Pacquiao said on Monday. "Floyd, if he comes out of retirement, we will see after this fight," said Pacquiao when asked about former champion Mayweather at a news conference to promote his Jan. 19 fight with Broner in Las Vegas.

Top 25 roundup: Freshmen lift No. 1 Duke over San Diego St.

R.J. Barrett scored 20 points to lead five Blue Devils in double-figures as No. 1 Duke opened play in the Maui Invitational by drubbing San Diego State 90-64 on Monday in Lahaina, Hawaii. The PGA Tour announced a six-year deal on Tuesday for an official tournament in Japan from next year, to be sponsored by a company whose CEO has signed up to orbit the moon. The inaugural $9.75 million Zozo Championship will be played Oct. 24-27 at Narashino Country Club in Chiba, part of the PGA Tour's three-event Asian swing.

NBA notebook: Wall reportedly fined, put on trade block

With the Washington Wizards in 11th place in the Eastern Conference, All-Star guards John Wall and Bradley Beal -- and all other players on the roster -- are available in trade talks, ESPN reported Monday, citing league sources. And the increasing tension apparently is getting to Wall, who was fined an undisclosed amount Monday for his verbal attack unleashed at coach Scott Brooks during a recent practice session, according to ESPN.

MLB notebook: Mariners trade Paxton to Yankees

The Seattle Mariners traded left-hander James Paxton to the New York Yankees, both teams announced on Monday. In return, the Mariners will get three Yankees' prospects in highly regarded left-hander Justus Sheffield, right-hander Erik Swanson and outfielder Dom Thompson-Williams.

Curling: Canadian curlers booted from event for being drunk

Olympic gold medalist Ryan Fry and his Canadian team mates were kicked out of a World Curling Tour event in Alberta at the weekend for being "extremely drunk", according to a Canadian Broadcasting Corporation report on Monday. Fry, who won gold at the 2014 Sochi Olympics, and his team were removed on Sunday by a committee after complaints they were breaking brooms and swearing as they went out for their match, the report said.

NFL: Redskins face tough road after gruesome Smith injury

The Washington Redskins season took a precarious turn on Sunday when starting quarterback Alex Smith suffered a gruesome broken leg, an injury that reverberated around the National Football League. NFL notebook: Harbaugh updates Flacco, defends Jackson

Baltimore Ravens head coach John Harbaugh said Monday that quarterback Joe Flacco has "a chance" to return from his hip injury in Week 12 against the Oakland Raiders. Harbaugh offered little when asked whether or not Lamar Jackson, who won his first career start against the Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday, could remain the team's starter even when Flacco is healthy, saying only, "I'm not getting into any of that."
