James Rodriguez of Colombia has made history by breaking Lionel Messi's record for the most assists in a single Copa America campaign. After a challenging period post his Real Madrid exit, Rodriguez has rediscovered his form, shining in the semi-final clash against Uruguay.

In the 39th minute, Rodriguez delivered a precise cross to Jefferson Lerma, who headed it into the net, securing Colombia's lead. This marked Rodriguez's sixth assist of the tournament, surpassing Messi's previous record of five assists in a single Copa America season, achieved in 2021.

Rodriguez began his campaign with two assists against Paraguay, followed by one against Costa Rica and two more in the quarterfinals against Panama. Despite an early lead, Colombia's defense faced challenges when Daniel Munoz was sent off after receiving a second yellow card. Uruguay introduced Luis Suarez, but he couldn't capitalize on his chances. The game ended in a tense 1-0, with Colombia advancing to the final against Argentina, while Uruguay players clashed with fans post-match.
