Delhi University's Olympians: A Legacy of Excellence

Delhi University's illustrious sporting tradition now includes a robust lineup of Olympic athletes. In the upcoming 2024 Paris Olympics, seven alumni and two current students are set to compete in various events. Notable names include table tennis star Manika Batra and shooters like Manu Bhaker and Rhythm Sangwan.

Delhi University (DU) has long been a hub for sporting talent, with the inter-college cricket final between St Stephen's and Hindu College being one of its marquee events. However, the university's sporting prowess has diversified over the years. As India gains momentum in the Olympic movement, DU has produced a roster of decorated athletes representing a variety of Olympic sports.

For the upcoming 2024 Paris Olympics, seven alumni and two current students from DU are gearing up to compete for top honors. This distinguished list includes table tennis player Manika Batra, an Asian Games bronze medalist, and multiple Commonwealth Games (CWG) medalist. In addition, several top women shooters. including Ramita Jindal and Rhythm Sangwan, are either current or former students of DU's prestigious colleges.

DU's rich sporting legacy has been further highlighted by the participation of three of its athletes, Manu Bhaker, Amoj Jacob, and Manika Batra, who also competed in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. Vice-Chancellor Yogesh Singh expressed his best wishes for the athletes, hoping they bring medals and honors to the country.
