In a surprising turn of events, scrumhalf Nic White has deferred his retirement plans to rejoin Australia's squad for the Rugby Championship tour of South Africa. This decision comes after the regular scrumhalf, Jake Gordon, suffered an injury, leaving a gap in the team.

Rugby Australia announced the updated squad on Thursday, featuring the seasoned White alongside uncapped scrumhalf Ryan Lonergan, who will face world champions South Africa in Johannesburg and later in Cape Town. Flyhalf Tom Lynagh, however, will not participate following a failed head injury assessment, with Tane Edmed stepping in as his replacement.

Coach Joe Schmidt's squad sees the introduction of fresh talent, including winger Corey Toole and prop Aidan Ross, despite the absence of Matt Faessler and Allan Alaalatoa due to injuries. Additionally, the squad retains Western Force hooker Brandon Paenga-Amosa, originally called up for the Sydney test.
