Luiz, a 27-year-old midfielder and Olympic gold medalist with Brazil, only played 27 matches for Juventus.
His career includes stints at Vasco da Gama, Manchester City, Girona, and Aston Villa. Forest, which ended last season in seventh place in the Premier League, will face Crystal Palace on Sunday.
