In a significant development for Karnataka cricket, former Indian pacer Venkatesh Prasad has been elected as the new president of the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA). Prasad emerged victorious over KN Shanth Kumar, collecting 749 votes to Kumar's 558, with 1307 members participating in the election.
Prasad's election comes at a crucial time as he has the challenging task of reviving top-level cricket in the state, following a tragic stampede near the M Chinnaswamy Stadium, which resulted in the death of 11 Royal Challengers Bengaluru fans. Both Prasad and Shanth Kumar had committed to restoring cricket operations in the state, with this being a key focus in their election campaigns.
In other results, Sujith Somasundar became the vice-president, BN Madhukar was elected treasurer, while Santosh Menon returned as the secretary. Prasad's panel, which received strong support from cricket icons Anil Kumble and Javagal Srinath, has now secured critical positions within the association.
