FIFA Unveils Record Prize Money for 2026 World Cup

FIFA has announced a historic increase in prize money for the 2026 World Cup, set to be 50% higher than the previous tournament, with a total financial contribution reaching a record $727 million.
The largest portion of this funding, approximately $655 million, will provide performance-based payments to the 48 participating nations. The champions are slated to receive $50 million, while the runners-up will earn $33 million. Teams not advancing past the initial group phase will receive $9 million each, and all qualifying nations will be given $1.5 million to cover preparation costs.
FIFA is also introducing festival-style youth tournaments, starting in 2026 with events for under-15 boys and continuing in 2027 with a girls competition. In addition, the Women's Club World Cup is set for January 2028, showcasing FIFA's commitment to enhancing global football's reach and development.
