Former India captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni has been named the ambassador for the Bajaj Pune Grand Tour, India's inaugural UCI 2.2 category multi-stage road race event. Scheduled from January 19 to 23, it promises to be a groundbreaking addition to India's sporting calendar.
This five-day Continental Road Cycling Race for Men will cover a 437km route filled with challenging elevations and sharp bends across the Deccan Plateau and Sahyadri Range, attracting 171 riders from 29 teams across 35 countries. Dhoni expressed his optimism that the event would open new avenues for cycling in India, especially for the Indian team.
Some of the top international teams participating include Spain's Pro Team Burgos BH, China's Li Ning Star, and Malaysia's Terengganu Cycling Team. India will feature prominently with 12 riders and four substitutes in action. The event is organized by the Pune District Administration and Cycling Federation of India.
