In a thrilling display of athletic prowess, Japan's Toshikazu Yamanishi set a new world record for the men's half marathon race walk on Sunday. Competing at the Japanese Half Marathon Race Walking Championships in Kobe, Yamanishi clocked a time of 1:20:34.
Celebrating his 30th birthday, Yamanishi broke away from the leading pack after the 17-kilometer mark, maintaining a steady pace to achieve a remarkable 20km mark time of 1:16:26. This was notably just 16 seconds away from his own 20km race walk world record set the previous year.
The World Athletics Council had set the inaugural world record for the half marathon race walk at 1:21:30, which Yamanishi surpassed by 54 seconds. In a sport known for its endurance challenges, Yamanishi's performance stands as a testament to his exceptional ability and determination.
