Alphonso Davies Faces Setback Ahead of World Cup

Canadian men's national team head coach Jesse Marsch announced that injured captain Alphonso Davies is unlikely to participate in the team's World Cup opener next month, though he is anticipated to join later matches. Marsch provided this update during a press conference on Monday.

Davies suffered a hamstring injury on May 6 during Bayern Munich's Champions League semi-final, which casts doubt on his availability for Canada's first match on June 12 against Bosnia and Herzegovina in Toronto. Despite this setback, Marsch remains optimistic about Davies' role in the tournament.

Having experienced previous injuries that impacted his international appearances, including an ACL tear and multiple hamstring issues, Davies is set to rejoin the Canadian team in preparation for their scheduled warm-up game against Uzbekistan in Edmonton on June 1.
