Rajat Patidar, captain of Royal Challengers Bengaluru, paid tribute to fans who died in a tragic stampede last year by dedicating the team's second IPL trophy to them. The stampede occurred during hastily planned victory celebrations at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium.
Speaking after RCB's victory over Gujarat Titans, Patidar expressed his heartfelt grief, calling the victims part of their family. Following substantial renovations and approval by the Karnataka Government and BCCI, the Chinnaswamy Stadium reopened to host cricket matches. In memory of the victims, RCB donned No.11 jerseys, and 11 seats were permanently marked at the venue.
RCB capitalized on their familiar surroundings, securing victories in four out of five matches played locally. However, due to high demand for passes from state politicians, the final match was moved to Ahmedabad.
