Trevor Birch, the Chief Executive of the English Football League (EFL), is set to resign from his role at the conclusion of the 2026-27 season, according to an announcement made by the EFL on Thursday.

During his tenure, Birch, 68, brought clarity and dedication to the league, earning praise from EFL Chairman Rick Parry. Parry expressed gratitude for Birch's contributions and assured that the board supports a smooth transition plan in the year ahead.

Among Birch's accomplishments were expanding the Championship playoffs from four to six teams, a change taking effect next season. He also openly criticized the 2024 decision to eliminate FA Cup replays.
