Visa Denial Keeps Thomas Partey from World Cup Opener
Thomas Partey will miss Ghana's World Cup match against Panama as his visa application to Canada was denied. Although based in Boston, Partey will play later matches. FIFA has clarified their non-involvement in immigration processes. Partey faces allegations of rape and sexual assault in Britain, which he denies.
Ghanaian midfielder Thomas Partey is set to miss the nation's opening World Cup match against Panama due to a denied visa application for entry into Canada, according to FIFA's recent announcement.
FIFA confirmed that Partey, along with the Ghana team, is currently stationed in Boston, USA. Since Canada's immigration practices remain unchanged despite hosting significant events, Partey will have to forego traveling to Canada for the June 17 match, as stated by Canada’s Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship representatives.
Though Partey will miss the match against Panama, he will still join Ghana in subsequent games taking place in the United States. At present, the former Arsenal midfielder, now with Villarreal, faces legal challenges concerning allegations of rape and sexual assault in Britain, which he firmly denies.
