Dan Burn's Bold World Cup Declaration: England's Quest for a Second Star
England defender Dan Burn emphasizes the team's determination to end their World Cup title drought ahead of their opening match against Croatia. The team is optimistic about winning their first title since 1966. England's journey begins with challenging group phase fixtures, and players are prepared for the tournament's conditions.
England defender Dan Burn has made it clear that the national team is determined to end their long-standing World Cup title drought. As Thomas Tuchel's side prepares for their Group L opener against Croatia on Wednesday, Burn emphasized England's ambitions to secure their first World Cup win since the 1966 triumph.
The 34-year-old Newcastle United player said, "I think it's pointless coming here and saying that we don't want to do that. That was the challenge, to put a second star on the chest. So that's what we want to do." England's campaign kicks off with a tough match against Croatia, a team that previously beat Gareth Southgate's squad in the 2018 semi-finals.
The team has been acclimatizing in Kansas City after training in Florida, with Burn noting that the preparation has helped them manage the weather conditions. "I think after the week that we had in West Palm, I haven't felt the heat as much being here," he said. Despite the week's wait before their first match, Burn is confident it will provide valuable time to assess the competition.
