The Washington Nationals slugged four consecutive homers in the eighth inning of Sunday's 5-2 road win over the San Diego Padres. It is the ninth time in major league history that a team hit four straight homers.

Howie Kendrick began the stretch with Trea Turner, Adam Eaton and Anthony Rendon following. All four homers were against San Diego right-handed reliever Craig Stammen. It marked the second time the Nationals have accomplished the feat since moving to Washington for the 2005 season.

The other time the Nationals hit four straight homers was in the third inning of a 15-2 home win over the Milwaukee Brewers on July 27, 2017. Brian Goodwin, Wilmer Difo, Bryce Harper and Ryan Zimmerman went deep for Washington in that contest. On Sunday, Kendrick came up as a pinch hitter with one out in the eighth inning and slugged a 2-2 knuckle curve 421 feet over the fence in left to snap a 1-1 tie.

Turner drove a 1-0 sinker 425 feet over the fence in centre, Eaton slammed a 1-0 sinker 402 feet to centre and Rendon sent an 0-1 sinker 391 feet over the fence in right centre. It is the second time the Padres have allowed four straight homers. The other occasion was on Sept. 18, 2006, against the Los Angeles Dodgers.
