Philadelphia Phillies star Bryce Harper left Friday night's game against the New York Mets before the bottom of the third inning with what the team announced as a right-hand contusion. Harper was hit by a Steven Matz pitch that went up and in during the top of the third inning. The pitch nearly grazed Harper's face before striking his hand. Harper took first base, but when the inning ended, was replaced by Sean Rodriguez in right field.

The game was scoreless at the time in the opener of a key three-game series between the two teams.
