Miguel Sano added another chapter to the Minnesota Twins' record-setting season for home runs when he hit his 30th on Tuesday night against the Chicago White Sox in Minneapolis. Sano's three-run blast to left-center field off Chicago lefty Ross Detwiler in the third inning made him the fifth Twins player to hit 30 this year. It's the first time a team has had that many 30-homer hitters in a single season.

The Twins, who began the night with 287 home runs as a team, one better than the New York Yankees, are led by Nelson Cruz with 37 home runs, followed by Max Kepler (36), Eddie Rosario (31), Mitch Garver (30) and Sano. It has been a decade since any team had even four players with 30 home runs in a season when the 2009 Philadelphia Phillies got 45 from Ryan Howard, 36 from Jayson Werth, 34 from Raul Ibanez and 31 from Chase Utley.

Before this year, the most recent time an AL team boasted four players with 30 home runs was the 2006 Chicago White Sox, featuring Jermaine Dye (44 homers), Jim Thome (42), Paul Konerko (35) and Joe Crede (30). Minnesota already set a record this season by having eight players with 20 home runs. And the Twins and the Yankees have surpassed the old single-season team record of 267 established by the Yankees last year.

The Twins are closing in on the American League Central title, entering play Tuesday holding a five-lead over the Cleveland Indians with 12 games to go.
