San Francisco 49ers coach Kyle Shanahan said he is "optimistic" that running back Tevin Coleman will return for Monday night's game after being out since Week 1 because of a sprained ankle. San Francisco (3-0) officially lists Coleman as questionable ahead of its home game against the Cleveland Browns (2-2).
"Tevin is a good back, as everyone knows. ... We're definitely being optimistic about him being ready to go on Monday," Shanahan told reporters Saturday. "We'll be excited to have him." Coleman left the season opener against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the first half after rushing for 23 yards on six carries. Matt Breida leads the 49ers with 41 carries for 226 yards, with Raheem Mostert gaining 202 yards on 34 attempts.
The 49ers acquired Coleman as a free agent this offseason from the Atlanta Falcons. The 26-year-old signed a two-year, $10 million contract with San Francisco after he rushed for a career-high 800 yards and four touchdowns last season.
