Minnesota Wild defenseman Jared Spurgeon will be out about two weeks after suffering a hand injury during Tuesday night's 4-2 road victory over the Florida Panthers. Team captain Mikko Koivu also sustained a lower-body injury in the game, but is considered day-to-day. Koivu, who didn't practice Wednesday, will attempt to participate in Thursday's morning skate to see if he could play later that night against the Tampa Bay Lightning.

Spurgeon, 30, returned to the Twin Cities on Wednesday after his hand was hit by a first-period shot from Aleksander Barkov on Tuesday. He has three goals and 13 assists in 28 games this season. A 10-year veteran, Spurgeon had career highs of 14 goals and 29 assists while playing in all 82 regular-season games in 2018-19. The seven-year, $53 million contract extension he signed in September will begin next season.

Koivu, a 36-year-old center, has two goals and 10 assists in 28 games this season.
