New Space Manager capabilities rolling out in Google Chat
Google is introducing new space manager capabilities in Google Chat. The new controls join the existing list of capabilities that were introduced earlier this year for effective conversations in spaces, including space configuration, member management and conversation moderation.
The new options - Manage apps and Manage webhooks - will allow space managers to control the ability of space members to add and remove apps and webhooks to a space.
Additionally, Google is making improvements to enhance the overall experience of spaces in Chat. The improvements include:
- An updated “@” mentions dialog notification to explain why a specific user or an app cannot be added to a space.
- A new full-screen view on web that shows space managers all installed apps and webhooks within a space.
End-users can configure space settings and modify permissions as needed by navigating to the space menu > select Space settings.
The new capabilities and improvements in Google Chat are gradually rolling out to Rapid Release and Scheduled Release domains and may take up to 15 days to be fully visible, starting on September 26, 2023. The update will be available to all Google Workspace customers.
Meanwhile, Google is rolling out a new message linking feature in Google Chat that helps teams collaborate more effectively. To generate links to messages, a “Copy link” option has been added for all messages posted in spaces, group messages and direct messages.
